Chris Proctor - National Fingerpicking Champion
I met Chris Proctor in July 2007 while sitting on the shuttle van that Accent on Music had arranged to pick us up from the airport. I certainly didn’t expect my pilgrimage to Mark Hanson’s guitar camp to begin with a 45 minute shuttle ride with the former National Fingerpicking Champion! We basically chatted about modern 12-String guitars the whole ride! Very cool!
Chris is a masterful player and teacher with an amazingly creative mind. I cannot stress enough how much spending a week learning from Chris has opened my eyes to the use of creative methods to eliminate obstructions that get in the way of being the performer I’ve dreamed of becoming. I cannot possibly do him justice in this short blurb so I plan to write an article or two on some of his ideas and how his thinking has transformed the way I think on a daily basis, not just with the guitar but with many aspects of my life including my design and manufacturing engineering job.
Chris has a couple of instructional DVD’s and books and I have yet to go through them because I have been feverishly working on other books already in progress but I plan to check them out when I am able. Visit Chris's Website
Look for more stories soon! In the meantime, please enjoy one of Chris's Taylor Workshop videos where he discusses many of his techniques! If nothing else, at least listen to Taproom at around 11:10! If you've never witnessed the tapping technique, do yourself a favor and watch this!
